The Homestead Grays have re-signed star outfielder Josh Hamilton to a 2 year contract @ $17.

Hamilton signed with the Grays after the 2009 season.

Homestead Grays Re-Sign Delmon Young, Travis Snider

The Homestead Grays have announced the first two of several expected re-signings today, by announcing the decision to re-sign LF Delmon Young to a 2 year contract @ $2 and LF/RF Travis Snider to a 4 year contract @ $6.

LF/RF Travis Snider, @ $7 (4) 7 + 4 = 11 / 2 = 5.5 --> $6
LF Delmon Young, @ $1 (3) 1 + 3 = 4 / 2 = $2

Young and Snider are among a list of players the Grays need to make decisions on, ahead of the league's September 1st Restricted Free Agent Deadline.

C Mike Napoli, 1B James Loney, LF Manny Ramirez, CF/RF Josh Hamilton, and RF Corey Hart all need to be re-signed before September 1st, in order to prevent giving other teams an opportunity to make bids to the restricted free agents.

Any player who's contract is expiring at the end of this season must be re-signed prior to September 1st, 2010. Failure to do so, allows the player to be exposed as a restricted free agent for a period of ten days (September 1st - September 10th). During this period, other teams may make bids to the restricted free agent. Dollar bids must use the averaged future cost of the free agent (always in green) as the low point. IE if the manager has the option to re-sign a player for $15, teams must make their bids for AT LEAST $15. After the Restricted Free Agent Period ends (September 11th 12:00 AM), managers will have ten days to decide whether or not to match offers for their restricted free agents. If they wish to match, they must do so before September 20th @ 12:01 AM.

Keeper signings are due by October 4th @ 12:01 AM.

Player Cut: Maicer Izturis - Homestead Grays

The Homestead Grays have released 2B/3B/SS Maicer Izturis ($1). Izturis had 1 year left on the 2 year contract he signed with the Grays after the 2009 season. Therefore his $1 salary will still count towards the Homestead Grays 2010 Keeper Payroll. (July 29th, 2010)

Trade: Master Batters Deal Again, Swap Chamberlain For Two Players

The Master Batters have agreed to a trade to send SP Joba Chamberlain ($11) to the Homestead Grays for SP Jonathan Sanchez ($5) and C Jarrod Saltalamacchia ($1).

The Master Batters now have $5 additional dollars to spend on free agents, while the Grays obviously have $5 less.

Chamberlain, 24, is three years younger than Sanchez and has a much more potent New York Yankees offence to support him. Things were running smoothly for Chamberlain in 2009 until his season was derailed by respective 8.22 and 7.15 ERA's in August and September. In 281.2 career IP, he has 285 K's against just 121 BB's.

Joba should vie for the 5th spot in the Yankees rotation entering 2010 (behind C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Javier Vazquez and Andy Pettitte) and should face several favourable matchups should he earn the role.

Sanchez, 27, threw a no-hitter against the San Diego Padres on July 10th, racking up 11 K's along the way. A strikeout pitcher (9.34 K/9 IP over his career), the key to success for Sanchez will be lowering his corresponding career 4.66 BB/9 IP rate.

Saltalamacchia, 24, hasn't exactly lived up to his prospect hype and has yet to find an offensive rhythm in the pros. He was originally drafted by the Homestead Grays in the Inaugural Draft prior to the 2009 season but didn't receive a contract at the end of the year. Re-signed by the Grays as a free agent just two days ago, Saltalamacchia will take his .251/.314/.389 career line as a switch-hitting catcher to the Master Batters, but he'll need to show some improvement to be anything more than a backup to incumbent starter Matt Wieters.

Trade: A Day After Being Traded By The Tigers, Curtis Granderson Is On The Move Again..

The Homestead Grays have traded CF Curtis Granderson ($26) to WinOrLoseHitTheBooze for SP Josh Johnson ($8) and a 5th round pick in 2010.

The 28-year-old Granderson batted .249/.327/.453 last year with 30 HR and 20 SB. He scored 91 runs and drove in 71. Although his batting average dropped for the second consecutive year, he still had a combined 61 extra-base hits (23-8-30). He has an extraodinary combination of extra-base power and speed, evidenced by his 84 XB-hits back in 2007.

Granderson was officially dealt to the New York Yankees today as part of a 3-team trade that also included the Detroit Tigers and Arizona Diamondbacks.

The 25-year-old Johnson had a career year in 2009, posting a 15-5 record with a 3.23 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. He made all 33 starts, logged over 209 IP and posted a 191/58 K/BB ratio.

Johnson has also been mentioned in trade rumors this week, as the Rangers apparently tried to pry him away from the Marlins for Neftali Feliz and Justin Smoak.

Granderson is signed to a 1-year contract, while Johnson is signed for 4 years.

WinOrLoseHitTheBooze's 5th round pick will be the 49th pick in the draft.

Fantasy Points Comparison:

Granderson (560) vs. Johnson (632)

This deal is now official and the corresponding roster moves have been made to the Homestead Grays and WinOrLoseHitTheBooze roster pages.

Trade: Grays unload B.J. Upton's $30

The Homestead Grays and Black Sox have reached an agreement on a two player swap. The trade sees 25-year-old CF B.J. Upton ($30) sent to the Black Sox with the Grays 10th round pick in the 2010 Entry Draft in exchange for 28-year-old SP Carlos Zambrano ($10) and the Black Sox's 3rd round pick in the 2010 Entry Draft.

In Upton, the Black Sox receive the Grays' original 2nd round pick in the Inaugural Draft, a player who hit 24 HR back in 2007 but has combined for just 20 over the last 2 season (1100+ AB). Upton can still run however, posting back-to-back 40 steal seasons in 2008 and 2009. However both his batting average and on-base percentage dropped considerably in 2009, leading to a meagre .686 OPS. Upton joins a crowded but talented outfield for the Black Sox, who already have LF Carlos Quentin, CF Carlos Beltran and RF Jay Bruce under contract.

The Homestead Grays shed significant payroll in the trade, $20 to be exact and add another arm to their arsenal. At "just" 28-years-old, Zambrano seems like he's been around forever. He owns a 105-68 career record but has seen his win total decline in two-straight years from 18 to 14 to 9 in 2009. He did miss a few starts however and finished with a 9-7 record over 28 starts, logging 169.1 IP of 3.77 ERA and 1.38 WHIP baseball. He gave up 78 BB and tallied 152 K's.

Fantasy Points Comparison:

Upton (484) vs. Zambrano (411.5)

This deal is now official and the corresponding roster moves have been made to the Homestead Grays and Black Sox roster pages.
